About the owner, Brittney Tuomala

I was born and raised in the small town of Fort Bragg, CA. My sister and I grew up in the kitchen baking with our mom. We even had our own business where we baked and sold cookies in our front yard called "Sisters Cookie Company".

After graduating high school, I moved to New York to attend The Culinary Institute of America. In 2009, I graduated with an Associates Degree in Baking and Pastry, followed by obtaining a Bachelors Degree in Business Management in 2010.

I moved to New York City, where I took a job as a server at Brasserie 8 1/2 in midtown. In a few short months, I moved to the back of the house to be a pastry cook. But that didn't last long. I quickly climbed the ladder, from pastry cook to pastry sous chef to head pastry chef. In 2012, I left on maternity leave and eventually moved back to the west coast with a bouncing baby boy.

We ended up in Napa, where I worked for Thomas Keller at Bouchon Bakery Yountville as a pastry commis. Only 9 months later, we moved down to San Francisco to help Michael Chiarello open his newest restaurant. At Coqueta, I ran the pastry department as the pastry assistant while the pastry chef worked from Napa. After only 6 months, we decided to go back to my hometown.

In Fort Bragg, I started my own business from home. I baked and sold cakes, pastries, and handmade chocolates out of my certified home kitchen. After 6 months, I realized that I needed a bigger kitchen and a store front to be more successful. A lot of hard work (and money!) later, I opened my first official bakery.

I now have two beautiful boys that keep me plenty busy when I'm not prepping for the case and filling special orders. In 2016, A Sweet Affair won the Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year! Keep an eye out for our booths at local events such as the Crab and Wine Festival, Art in the Gardens, and Winesong.
